Description

Discover the art of making candied orange peel, a sweet treat with versatile culinary potential.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Oranges (Navel or Valencia)
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 2 cups Water
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Optional Spices: Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly, slice off the ends, and cut them into quarters, removing the flesh.
  2. Place the peels in a pot filled with cold water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Drain the peels and rinse them under cold water.
  4. In the same pot, combine equal parts sugar and water and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Add the orange peels to the sugar syrup and simmer gently for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. After candying, remove the peels and place them on a wire rack to cool. Toss with additional sugar if desired.
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

Avoid using overripe oranges to prevent bitterness. Ensure the peels are cool before storing.
