Delight in the nostalgic taste of homemade orange candy, a sweet confection made with fresh oranges and simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- Fresh Oranges – 4-6 ripe oranges
- Granulated Sugar – 2 cups
- Water – 1 cup
- Corn Syrup – 1 cup
- Salt – a pinch
- Vanilla Extract – 1 tsp
Instructions
- Prepare the Oranges: Wash and zest one orange, then juice the oranges until you have about 1 cup of juice.
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix the orange juice, granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Cook the Mixture: Heat over medium and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer without stirring for 15-20 minutes until it reaches soft-ball stage.
- Test the Syrup: Drop syrup into cold water; if it forms a soft ball, it’s ready.
- Add Zest and Extract: Remove from heat and stir in orange zest and vanilla extract.
- Pour and Cool: Pour into a greased dish to cool completely until it hardens.
- Cut the Candy: Once set, cut into bite-sized pieces.
