Description

Delight in the nostalgic taste of homemade orange candy, a sweet confection made with fresh oranges and simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Oranges – 4-6 ripe oranges
  • Granulated Sugar – 2 cups
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Corn Syrup – 1 cup
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Vanilla Extract – 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oranges: Wash and zest one orange, then juice the oranges until you have about 1 cup of juice.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix the orange juice, granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Cook the Mixture: Heat over medium and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer without stirring for 15-20 minutes until it reaches soft-ball stage.
  4. Test the Syrup: Drop syrup into cold water; if it forms a soft ball, it’s ready.
  5. Add Zest and Extract: Remove from heat and stir in orange zest and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour and Cool: Pour into a greased dish to cool completely until it hardens.
  7. Cut the Candy: Once set, cut into bite-sized pieces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for best preservation.
