- 3 cups All-Purpose Flour (substitutable with whole wheat or bread flour)
- 1 ¼ cups Warm Water
- 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (preferably extra virgin)
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- Herbs and Garlic (optional, e.g., rosemary, thyme, garlic powder)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover with a towel. Allow it to rise in a warm location for about 1 hour.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired strips.
- Lay the strips on a greased baking sheet, spacing apart. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes, then enjoy warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, brush with melted butter or garlic oil before serving. Serve with dipping sauces like marinara or garlic butter.
